Closet clean out sessions are in full effect! This was probably put off for a while but right now is the perfect time.
Before you put all of your wanted items back inside, have you thought about taking it a step further? For sure scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest has drawn your attention to your dream closet, so why not take it a step further and make it happen! Creating your dream closet doesn’t have to break the bank. Let us be your guide and hopefully by the end of this post you are amped to get started.
Be Inspired
Inspiration is a great start to get your creative juices flowing. Screenshot, Pin It, whatever you do, gather as much inspiration you can to get an idea of the look and vibe of your dream closet. When finding inspiration, keep your current space in mind. The idea of this post is not to encourage you to knock down walls or any other major demolition task.
Evaluate your Space
Don’t let your inspiration overpower your current space. Figure out what you have and what you really need. Get the measurements of your closet and have them handy for the next part of the process.
Closet Organization Systems
The start to a dream closet is having the right organization system. Whether it’s a reach-in or walk-in closet, there are many organization systems out there to help fulfill your closet makeover.
Custom organizers allow you to create a wardrobe system that suits your taste and your space. To name a few, IKEA, The Container Store, Lowe's (or any hardware store), and Wayfair offer systems that will take your dream closet to the next level. Here are some of the organization systems we are loving!

So, you might’ve looked at the customized systems and said to yourself, love it Closet Talk but my space (or budget) needs an alternative. No worries! Let’s step outside the box and get creative.
It may seem unusual but a bookcase is the perfect alternative to a closet organization system. The Billy Bookcase from IKEA is a popular item used by many for DIY closet projects. Some have taken it a step further and put up molding to elevate the look.
If you are good with plywood boards or have a handyman on deck, why not try to create your own closet organization system. Home Depot has the perfect guide to get it accomplished. Check it out! DIY Closet Organizer by Home Depot
Lighting
The importance of having good lighting in your space makes a huge impact to the overall look of your closet. Of course, Closet Talk would tell you to go with a chandelier but if that’s not your thing, look for rods with built-in lights, LED adhesive light strips, or LED adhesive puck lights. There are a range of styles and price points.
Budget
Do you have in mind how much you want to spend to create your dream closet? If so, keep this in mind when searching for the right closet organization system, lighting, and other organization items/décor. Keep your spending in check with a budget.
